AcuWellness5NP is dedicated to expanding access to the 5-Needle Ear Acupuncture Protocol for individuals impacted by chronic stress, trauma, and addiction. Our clinics prioritize low-barrier, community-based treatment — bringing 5NP to those who need it most, regardless of socioeconomic status or background.

About 5NP Treatments (Clinics & Events)

Increasing the number of locations where 5NP is available—especially in low-barrier community settings—is a cornerstone of our work. We prioritize making treatments available to those who need them most, regardless of socioeconomic status or background.

The 5-Needle Ear Acupuncture Protocol (5NP)—originally known as “acudetox”—was developed in the 1970s as a community-based response to heroin addiction and methadone dependence in the Bronx. Over time, its role expanded dramatically. After the events of 9/11, many first responders, overwhelmed and uninterested in traditional talk therapy, found peace and relief through 5NP. Since then, it has been used in the aftermath of natural disasters—including hurricanes, wildfires, and volcanic eruptions—as a tool for emotional and physical recovery.

While 5NP has strong roots in addiction treatment, its benefits extend far beyond that. Today, we refer to it as “acuwellness” to better reflect its broader capacity to relieve the effects of chronic stress, trauma, and emotional distress.

What Does 5NP Help With?

Though individual experiences vary, 5NP is known for being universally calming. Commonly reported benefits include:

  • Improved sleep quality
  • Reduced anxiety
  • Mental clarity and more deliberate thinking
  • Increased hope and emotional resilience

Because 5NP is a nonverbal therapy, it removes the pressure of disclosing personal details, making it accessible, respectful, and nonjudgmental. It meets each person where they are—offering comfort, space, and support on their own terms.
